In news that won't come as a surprise to most people, rumors that DDRF 2010 has been canceled have been confirmed. Ever since people heard the rumors, efforts were made to contact the organizers in order to confirm it. An email sent out by CSM confirmed the news. Even though the event was titled Desert Rock, this news is highly disappointing for metal fans as well since past editions of the event featured greats like In Flames, Machine Head and Iron Maiden. In fact the previous edition was a tribute to metal with Motorhead, Opeth and Arch Enemy performing.
Thus, as usual, Dubai's major gig calendar continues to be populated by acts like Nickleback, Flo Rida and Sting while metal is neglected. Reasons for the cancellation of the event are mostly financial with sponsorship proving to be an issue after the major setbacks that the Dubai economy has suffered.
Now, all we metalheads can do is wait and hope that things improve so that our favorite acts can perform here again.
